Prove each of the following statements:

For all integers aa, bb, and cc with a≠0a \ne 0, if a∣ba \mid b and a∣ca \mid c, then a∣(b−c)a \mid \left(b-c \right).

정답·풀이 보기 (영어 원문)

Since a∣ba \mid b and a∣ca \mid c, there exist integers mm and nn such that b=amb = am and c=anc = an. Hence,

b−c=am−an=a(m−n)\begin{aligned}b - c & = am - an \\ & = a(m - n)\end{aligned}

Since m−nm - n is an integer (by the closure properties of the integers), the last equation implies that aa divides b−cb - c.

Complete the following.

If xx and yy are integers and xy=1xy=1, explain why x=1x=1 or x=−1x=-1.

다 풀었으면 정답 확인

If xy=1xy = 1, then xx and yy are both divisors of 11, and the only divisors of 11 are −1-1 and 11.
