Find the flux of the vector field (x+y,x+z,y+z)(x + y, x + z, y + z) through the cylindrical surface whose equation is x2+z2=4x^2 + z^2 = 4, and which extends from y=0y = 0 to y=3y = 3. (Only the curved part of the cylinder is included, not the two disks bounding it on the left and right.) The orientation of the surface is outward, i.e., pointing away from the yy-axis.

풀이 1 (발산 정리): F=(x+y,x+z,y+z)\mathbf{F} = (x + y, x + z, y + z) 라 하자. 그러면 ∇⋅F=2{ \boldsymbol{\nabla} }\cdot\mathbf{F} = 2 이다. 매우 간단하다. 그러므로 발산 정리를 이용해 보자.

  • S={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2=4, 0≤y≤3 }S=\big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2=4,\ 0\le y\le 3\ \big\} 라 하자.

V={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2≤4, 0≤y≤3 }V = \big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2\le 4,\ 0\le y\le 3\ \big\}

VV 의 경계 ∂V\partial V 는 세 조각, 곧 SS 와 두 원판

Dl={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2≤4, y=0 }Dr={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2≤4, y=3 }D_l = \big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2\le 4,\ y=0\ \big\}\qquad D_r = \big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2\le 4,\ y=3\ \big\}

∭V∇⋅F dV=∬∂VF⋅n^ dS=∬SF⋅n^ dS+∬DrF⋅ȷ^ dS+∬DlF⋅(−ȷ^) dS\begin{aligned} \iiint _V { \boldsymbol{\nabla} }\cdot \mathbf{F}\,\mathrm{d}V &=\iint _{\partial V}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S \\ &=\iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S + \iint _{D_r}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}}\,\mathrm{d}S + \iint _{D_l}\mathbf{F}\cdot(-\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}})\,\mathrm{d}S \end{aligned}

∇⋅F=2{ \boldsymbol{\nabla} }\cdot\mathbf{F} = 2 이고 F⋅ȷ^=x+z\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}} = x+z 이므로

∬SF⋅n^ dS=∭V2 dV−∬x2+z2≤4(x+z) dxdz−∬x2+z2≤4(−x−z) dxdz=∭V2 dV=2 부피(V)=2(π22)3=24π\begin{aligned} \iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S &= \iiint _V 2\,\mathrm{d}V -\iint _{x^2+z^2\le 4}(x+z)\,\mathrm{d}x\mathrm{d}z - \iint _{x^2+z^2\le 4}(-x-z)\,\mathrm{d}x\mathrm{d}z \\ &= \iiint _V 2\,\mathrm{d}V \\ &= 2\ \text{부피}(V) =2(\pi 2^2) 3 =24\pi \end{aligned}

풀이 2 (직접 계산): 곡면을 다음과 같이 매개화하자.

r(θ,y)=2cos⁡θ ı^+y ȷ^+2sin⁡θ k^0≤θ<2π, 0≤y≤3\begin{aligned} \mathbf{r}(\theta,y) &= 2\cos\theta\,\hat{\boldsymbol{\imath}} +y\,\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}} + 2\sin\theta\,\hat{\mathbf{k}}\qquad 0\le\theta<2\pi,\ 0\le y\le 3 \end{aligned}

그러면

∂r∂θ=(−2sin⁡θ , 0 , 2cos⁡θ)∂r∂y=(0 , 1 , 0)n^dS=±∂r∂θ×∂r∂ydθdy=±(−2cos⁡θ , 0 , −2sin⁡θ)dθdy\begin{aligned} \tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial\theta} &=\big(-2\sin\theta\,,\, 0\,,\, 2\cos\theta \big) \\ \tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial y} &=\big(0\,,\, 1\,,\, 0\big) \\ \hat{\mathbf{n}}\mathrm{d}S &=\pm\tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial\theta} \times \tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial y} \mathrm{d}\theta\mathrm{d}y =\pm \big(-2\cos\theta\,,\, 0\,,\, -2\sin\theta\big)\mathrm{d}\theta\mathrm{d}y \end{aligned}

바깥쪽 법선벡터를 얻으려면 음의 부호를 택해야 한다. 따라서

n^dS=(2cos⁡θ , 0 , 2sin⁡θ)dθdy\hat{\mathbf{n}}\mathrm{d}S =\big(2\cos\theta\,,\, 0\,,\, 2\sin\theta\big)\mathrm{d}\theta\mathrm{d}y

이고,

F(r(θ,y))=(2cos⁡θ+y , 2cos⁡θ+2sin⁡θ , y+2sin⁡θ)\mathbf{F}\big(\mathbf{r}(\theta,y)\big) =\big(2\cos\theta + y\,,\,2\cos\theta+2\sin\theta\,,\,y+2\sin\theta\big)

이므로 구하는 플럭스는

∬SF⋅n^ dS=∫02πdθ∫03dy (2cos⁡θ+y , 2cos⁡θ+2sin⁡θ , y+2sin⁡θ)⋅(2cos⁡θ , 0 , 2sin⁡θ)=∫02πdθ∫03dy (4cos⁡2θ+2ycos⁡θ+2ysin⁡θ+4sin⁡2θ)=∫02πdθ∫03dy (4+2ycos⁡θ+2ysin⁡θ)\begin{aligned} \iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S &= \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y \ \big(2\cos\theta + y\,,\,2\cos\theta+2\sin\theta\,,\,y+2\sin\theta\big)\cdot \big(2\cos\theta\,,\,0\,,\, 2\sin\theta\big) \\ &= \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y \ \big(4\cos^2\theta + 2y\cos\theta +2y\sin\theta+4\sin^2\theta\big) \\ &= \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y \ \big(4 + 2y\cos\theta +2y\sin\theta\big) \end{aligned}

∫02πdθ cos⁡θ=∫02πdθ sin⁡θ=0\int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\ \cos\theta = \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\ \sin\theta = 0 이므로

∬SF⋅n^ dS=4∫02πdθ∫03dy=4(2π)3=24π\begin{aligned} \iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S &= 4\int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y =4(2\pi)3 =24\pi \end{aligned}

Solution 1 (divergence theorem): Set F=(x+y,x+z,y+z)\mathbf{F} = (x + y, x + z, y + z). Then ∇⋅F=2{ \boldsymbol{\nabla} }\cdot\mathbf{F} = 2. That's really simple. So let's try using the divergence theorem.

  • Set S={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2=4, 0≤y≤3 }S=\big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2=4,\ 0\le y\le 3\ \big\}. We are to compute ∬SF⋅n^ dS\iint _S\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S, with n^\hat{\mathbf{n}} denoting the outward normal to SS. SS is not the boundary of a solid, so we cannot compute ∬SF⋅n^ dS\iint _S\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S by applying the divergence theorem directly. The figure on the left below shows the part of SS that is in the first octant.

figure

figure

  • On the other hand SS, is “almost” the boundary of

V={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2≤4, 0≤y≤3 }V = \big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2\le 4,\ 0\le y\le 3\ \big\}

The boundary, ∂V\partial V of VV consists of three pieces — SS and the two disks

Dl={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2≤4, y=0 }Dr={ (x,y,z) ∣ x2+z2≤4, y=3 }D_l = \big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2\le 4,\ y=0\ \big\}\qquad D_r = \big\{ \ (x,y,z)\ \big|\ x^2+z^2\le 4,\ y=3\ \big\}

The figure on the right above shows the parts of SS, VV, DlD_l and DrD_r that are in the first octant.

The outward normal to DrD_r is ȷ^\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}} and the outward normal to DlD_l is −ȷ^-\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}}, to the divergence theorem gives

∭V∇⋅F dV=∬∂VF⋅n^ dS=∬SF⋅n^ dS+∬DrF⋅ȷ^ dS+∬DlF⋅(−ȷ^) dS\begin{aligned} \iiint _V { \boldsymbol{\nabla} }\cdot \mathbf{F}\,\mathrm{d}V &=\iint _{\partial V}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S \\ &=\iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S + \iint _{D_r}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}}\,\mathrm{d}S + \iint _{D_l}\mathbf{F}\cdot(-\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}})\,\mathrm{d}S \end{aligned}

Since ∇⋅F=2{ \boldsymbol{\nabla} }\cdot\mathbf{F} = 2 and F⋅ȷ^=x+z\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}} = x+z,

∬SF⋅n^ dS=∭V2 dV−∬x2+z2≤4(x+z) dxdz−∬x2+z2≤4(−x−z) dxdz=∭V2 dV=2 volume(V)=2(π22)3=24π\begin{aligned} \iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S &= \iiint _V 2\,\mathrm{d}V -\iint _{x^2+z^2\le 4}(x+z)\,\mathrm{d}x\mathrm{d}z - \iint _{x^2+z^2\le 4}(-x-z)\,\mathrm{d}x\mathrm{d}z \\ &= \iiint _V 2\,\mathrm{d}V \\ &= 2\ \text{volume}(V) =2(\pi 2^2) 3 =24\pi \end{aligned}

Solution 2 (direct evaluation): Let's parametrize the surface by

r(θ,y)=2cos⁡θ ı^+y ȷ^+2sin⁡θ k^0≤θ<2π, 0≤y≤3\begin{aligned} \mathbf{r}(\theta,y) &= 2\cos\theta\,\hat{\boldsymbol{\imath}} +y\,\hat{\boldsymbol{\jmath}} + 2\sin\theta\,\hat{\mathbf{k}}\qquad 0\le\theta<2\pi,\ 0\le y\le 3 \end{aligned}

Then

∂r∂θ=(−2sin⁡θ , 0 , 2cos⁡θ)∂r∂y=(0 , 1 , 0)n^dS=±∂r∂θ×∂r∂ydθdy=±(−2cos⁡θ , 0 , −2sin⁡θ)dθdy\begin{aligned} \tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial\theta} &=\big(-2\sin\theta\,,\, 0\,,\, 2\cos\theta \big) \\ \tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial y} &=\big(0\,,\, 1\,,\, 0\big) \\ \hat{\mathbf{n}}\mathrm{d}S &=\pm\tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial\theta} \times \tfrac{\partial\mathbf{r}}{\partial y} \mathrm{d}\theta\mathrm{d}y =\pm \big(-2\cos\theta\,,\, 0\,,\, -2\sin\theta\big)\mathrm{d}\theta\mathrm{d}y \end{aligned}

To get the outward normal, we want the minus sign. So

n^dS=(2cos⁡θ , 0 , 2sin⁡θ)dθdy\hat{\mathbf{n}}\mathrm{d}S =\big(2\cos\theta\,,\, 0\,,\, 2\sin\theta\big)\mathrm{d}\theta\mathrm{d}y

and, since

F(r(θ,y))=(2cos⁡θ+y , 2cos⁡θ+2sin⁡θ , y+2sin⁡θ)\mathbf{F}\big(\mathbf{r}(\theta,y)\big) =\big(2\cos\theta + y\,,\,2\cos\theta+2\sin\theta\,,\,y+2\sin\theta\big)

the specified flux is

∬SF⋅n^ dS=∫02πdθ∫03dy (2cos⁡θ+y , 2cos⁡θ+2sin⁡θ , y+2sin⁡θ)⋅(2cos⁡θ , 0 , 2sin⁡θ)=∫02πdθ∫03dy (4cos⁡2θ+2ycos⁡θ+2ysin⁡θ+4sin⁡2θ)=∫02πdθ∫03dy (4+2ycos⁡θ+2ysin⁡θ)\begin{aligned} \iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S &= \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y \ \big(2\cos\theta + y\,,\,2\cos\theta+2\sin\theta\,,\,y+2\sin\theta\big)\cdot \big(2\cos\theta\,,\,0\,,\, 2\sin\theta\big) \\ &= \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y \ \big(4\cos^2\theta + 2y\cos\theta +2y\sin\theta+4\sin^2\theta\big) \\ &= \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y \ \big(4 + 2y\cos\theta +2y\sin\theta\big) \end{aligned}

Since ∫02πdθ cos⁡θ=∫02πdθ sin⁡θ=0\int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\ \cos\theta = \int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\ \sin\theta = 0,

∬SF⋅n^ dS=4∫02πdθ∫03dy=4(2π)3=24π\begin{aligned} \iint _{S}\mathbf{F}\cdot\hat{\mathbf{n}}\,\mathrm{d}S &= 4\int_0^{2\pi}\mathrm{d}\theta\int_0^3\mathrm{d}y =4(2\pi)3 =24\pi \end{aligned}
