명제 $p\to q$ 가 참일 때 $p\Rightarrow q$ 로 쓰고, $p$ 는 $q$ 이기 위한 충분조건, $q$ 는 $p$ 이기 위한 필요조건이라 합니다.

$p\Rightarrow q$ 이고 $q\Rightarrow p$ 이면 $p\Leftrightarrow q$ 로 쓰고, $p$ 는 $q$ 이기 위한 필요충분조건이라 합니다.

진리집합으로 보면 $P\subset Q$ 일 때 충분조건, $P=Q$ 일 때 필요충분조건입니다. 예: $x=1$ 은 $x^2=1$ 이기 위한 충분조건이지만 필요조건은 아닙니다.
