방법 1:u=exdu=ex dx dv=x3 dxv=14x4방법 2:u=x3du=3x2 dx dv=ex dxv=ex\begin{array}{c | l | l |} &&\\ \text{방법 1:\quad}& u=e^x &\mathrm{d}u=e^x ~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=x^3~\mathrm{d}x&v=\frac{1}{4}x^4\\[10pt] &&\\ \text{방법 2:\quad}& u=x^3&\mathrm{d}u=3x^2~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=e^x~ \mathrm{d}x&v=e^x\\[10pt] \end{array}

그러므로 방법 2인 u=x3u=x^3, dv=exdx\mathrm{d}v=e^x\mathrm{d}x, du=3x2dx\mathrm{d}u=3x^2\mathrm{d}x, v=exv = e^x 으로 시작한다.

이 결과가 타당한지 확인해 보자. ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+Ce^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+C 의 도함수는 x3exx^3e^x 이어야 한다.

ddx{ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+C}=ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+ex(3x2−6x+6)=ex(x3−3x2+3x2+6x−6x−6+6)=x3ex\begin{aligned} \frac{\mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{d}x}\left\{e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+C\right\} &=e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+e^x\left(3x^2-6x+6\right)\\ &=e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+3x^2+6x-6x-6+6\right)=x^3e^x \end{aligned}

This integrand is the product of two functions, with no obvious substitution. So, let's try integration by parts, with one part exe^x and one part x3x^3.

Option 1:u=exdu=ex dx dv=x3 dxv=14x4Option 2:u=x3du=3x2 dx dv=ex dxv=ex\begin{array}{c | l | l |} &&\\ \text{Option 1:\quad}& u=e^x &\mathrm{d}u=e^x ~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=x^3~\mathrm{d}x&v=\frac{1}{4}x^4\\[10pt] &&\\ \text{Option 2:\quad}& u=x^3&\mathrm{d}u=3x^2~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=e^x~ \mathrm{d}x&v=e^x\\[10pt] \end{array}

At first glance, multiplying the red functions and multiplying the blue functions give largely equivalent integrands to what we started with–none of them with obvious antiderivatives. In previous questions, we were able to choose u=xu=x, and then du=dx\mathrm{d}u=\mathrm{d}x, so the “xx" in the integrand effectively went away. Here, we see that choosing u=x3u=x^3 will lead to du=3x2dx\mathrm{d}u=3x^2\mathrm{d}x, which has a lower power. If we repeatedly perform integration by parts, choosing uu to be the power of xx each time, then after a few iterations it should go away, because the third derivative of x3x^3 is a constant.

So, we start with Option 2: u=x3u=x^3, dv=exdx\mathrm{d}v=e^x\mathrm{d}x, du=3x2dx\mathrm{d}u=3x^2\mathrm{d}x, and v=exv = e^x.

∫x3exdx=x3⏟uex⏟v−∫ex⏟v⋅3x2dx⏟du=x3ex−3∫ex⋅x2dxNow, we take u=x2 and dv=exdx, so du=2xdx and v=ex. We’re only using integration by parts on the actual integral–the rest of the function stays the way it is.=x3ex−3[x2ex⏟uv−∫ex⏟v⋅2xdx⏟du]=x3ex−3x2ex+6∫xexdxContinuing, we take u=x and dv=exdx, so du=dx and v=ex. This is the step where the polynomial part of the integrand finally disappears.=x3ex−3x2ex+6[xex⏟uv−∫ex⏟vdx⏟du]=x3ex−3x2ex+6xex−6ex+C=ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+C\begin{aligned} \int x^3 e^x \mathrm{d}x&= \underbrace{x^3}_{u}\underbrace{e^x}_{v} - \int \underbrace{e^x}_v \cdot\underbrace{ 3x^2 \mathrm{d}x}_{\mathrm{d}u}\\ &= {x^3}{e^x} -3 \int {e^x} \cdot x^2 \mathrm{d}x \\ \text{Now, we take $u=x^2$ and $\mathrm{d}v=e^x\mathrm{d}x$, so $\mathrm{d}u=2x\mathrm{d}x$ and $v=e^x$. We're only using integration by parts on the actual integral--the rest of the function stays the way it is.} \\ &=x^3e^x -3 \left[\underbrace{x^2e^x}_{uv} - \int \underbrace{e^x}_{v} \cdot \underbrace{2x\mathrm{d}x}_{\mathrm{d}u}\right] \\ &=x^3e^x - 3x^2e^x + 6\int x e^x\mathrm{d}x \\ \text{Continuing, we take $u=x$ and $\mathrm{d}v=e^x\mathrm{d}x$, so $\mathrm{d}u=\mathrm{d}x$ and $v=e^x$. This is the step where the polynomial part of the integrand finally disappears.} \\ &=x^3e^x - 3x^2e^x + 6\left[\underbrace{xe^x}_{uv} - \int \underbrace{ e^x}_v \underbrace{\mathrm{d}x}_{\mathrm{d}u}\right]\\ &=x^3e^x-3x^2e^x+6xe^x - 6e^x+C \\ &=e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+C \end{aligned}

Let's check that this makes sense: the derivative of ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+Ce^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+C should be x3exx^3e^x. We differentiate using the product rule.

ddx{ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+C}=ex(x3−3x2+6x−6)+ex(3x2−6x+6)=ex(x3−3x2+3x2+6x−6x−6+6)=x3ex\begin{aligned} \frac{\mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{d}x}\left\{e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+C\right\} &=e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+6x - 6\right)+e^x\left(3x^2-6x+6\right)\\ &=e^x\left(x^3-3x^2+3x^2+6x-6x-6+6\right)=x^3e^x \end{aligned}

Remark: In order to be technically correct in our antidifferentiation, we should add the +C+C as soon as we do the first integration by parts. However, when we are using integration by parts, we usually end up evaluating an integral at the end, and we add the +C+C at that point. Since the +C+C comes up eventually, it is common practice to not clutter our calculations with it until the end.

방법 1:u=x2du=2x dx dv=sin⁡x dxv=−cos⁡x방법 2:u=sin⁡xdu=cos⁡x dx dv=x2 dxv=13x3\begin{array}{c | l | l |} &&\\ \text{방법 1:\quad}& u=x^2 &\mathrm{d}u=2x ~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=\sin x~\mathrm{d}x&v=-\cos x\\[10pt] &&\\ \text{방법 2:\quad}& u=\sin x&\mathrm{d}u=\cos x~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=x^2~ \mathrm{d}x&v=\frac{1}{3}x^3\\[10pt] \end{array}

그러므로 u=x2u=x^2, dv=sin⁡xdx\mathrm{d}v=\sin x\mathrm{d}x 로 놓고 시작하면 du=2xdx\mathrm{d}u=2x\mathrm{d}x, v=−cos⁡xv=-\cos x 이다.

The integrand is the product of two functions, without an obvious substitution, so let's see what integration by parts can do for us.

Option 1:u=x2du=2x dx dv=sin⁡x dxv=−cos⁡xOption 2:u=sin⁡xdu=cos⁡x dx dv=x2 dxv=13x3\begin{array}{c | l | l |} &&\\ \text{Option 1:\quad}& u=x^2 &\mathrm{d}u=2x ~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=\sin x~\mathrm{d}x&v=-\cos x\\[10pt] &&\\ \text{Option 2:\quad}& u=\sin x&\mathrm{d}u=\cos x~\mathrm{d}x\\[10pt] ~& \mathrm{d}v=x^2~ \mathrm{d}x&v=\frac{1}{3}x^3\\[10pt] \end{array}

Neither option gives us something immediately integrable, but Option 1 replaces our x2x^2 term with a lower power of xx. If we repeatedly apply integration by parts, we can reduce this power to zero. So, we start by choosing u=x2u=x^2 and dv=sin⁡xdx\mathrm{d}v=\sin x\mathrm{d}x, so du=2xdx\mathrm{d}u=2x\mathrm{d}x and v=−cos⁡xv=-\cos x.

This is your friendly reminder that to a person with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. The integral in the problem is a classic example of an integral to solve using substitution. We have an “inside function," x2+1x^2+1, whose derivative shows up multiplied to the rest of the integrand. We take u=x2+1u=x^2+1, then du=2xdx\mathrm{d}u=2x\mathrm{d}x, so ∫2xex2+1dx=∫eudu=eu+C=ex2+1+C\int 2xe^{x^2+1}\mathrm{d}x = \int e^u\mathrm{d}u=e^u+C = e^{x^2+1}+C

∫4yarctan⁡(2y) dy\displaystyle\int 4y\arctan(2y) \,\mathrm{d}y

Evaluate ∫4yarctan⁡(2y) dy\displaystyle\int 4y\arctan(2y) \,\mathrm{d}y.

u=arctan⁡(2y)u = \arctan(2y), dv=4y dy\mathrm{d}v = 4y \,\mathrm{d}y 로 놓고 부분적분을 한다. 그러면 v=2y2v=2y^2 이고 du=2 dy1+(2y)2\mathrm{d}u= \frac{2\, \mathrm{d}y}{1+(2y)^2} 이다:

∫4yarctan⁡(2y) dy=2y2arctan⁡(2y)⏟uv−∫4y2(2y)2+1 dy⏟vdu\begin{aligned} \int 4y\arctan(2y) \,\mathrm{d}y = \underbrace{2y^2\arctan(2y)}_{uv} - \int\underbrace{ \frac{4y^2}{(2y)^2+1} \,\mathrm{d}y}_{v\mathrm{d}u} \end{aligned}

∫4y24y2+1 dy=∫(1−14y2+1) dy=y−12arctan⁡(2y)+C\begin{aligned} \int \frac{4y^2}{4y^2+1} \,\mathrm{d}y = \int \left(1 - \frac{1}{4y^2+1}\right)\,\mathrm{d}y = y - \frac12\arctan(2y) + C \end{aligned}

∫4yarctan⁡(2y) dy=2y2arctan⁡(2y)−y+12arctan⁡(2y)+C\begin{aligned} \int 4y\arctan(2y) \,\mathrm{d}y = 2y^2\arctan(2y) - y + \frac{1}{2}\arctan(2y) + C \end{aligned}

We integrate by parts, using u=arctan⁡(2y)u = \arctan(2y), dv=4y dy\mathrm{d}v = 4y \,\mathrm{d}y, so that v=2y2v=2y^2 and du=2 dy1+(2y)2\mathrm{d}u= \frac{2\, \mathrm{d}y}{1+(2y)^2}:

∫4yarctan⁡(2y) dy=2y2arctan⁡(2y)⏟uv−∫4y2(2y)2+1 dy⏟vdu\begin{aligned} \int 4y\arctan(2y) \,\mathrm{d}y = \underbrace{2y^2\arctan(2y)}_{uv} - \int\underbrace{ \frac{4y^2}{(2y)^2+1} \,\mathrm{d}y}_{v\mathrm{d}u} \end{aligned}

The integrand 4y2(2y)2+1\frac{4y^2}{(2y)^2+1} is a rational function. So the remaining integral can be evaluated using the method of partial fractions, starting with long division. But it is easier to just notice that 4y24y2+1=4y2+14y2+1−14y2+1\frac{4y^2}{4y^2+1} = \frac{4y^2+1}{4y^2+1} - \frac{1}{4y^2+1}. We therefore have:

∫4y24y2+1 dy=∫(1−14y2+1) dy=y−12arctan⁡(2y)+C\begin{aligned} \int \frac{4y^2}{4y^2+1} \,\mathrm{d}y = \int \left(1 - \frac{1}{4y^2+1}\right)\,\mathrm{d}y = y - \frac12\arctan(2y) + C \end{aligned}

The final answer is then

∫4yarctan⁡(2y) dy=2y2arctan⁡(2y)−y+12arctan⁡(2y)+C\begin{aligned} \int 4y\arctan(2y) \,\mathrm{d}y = 2y^2\arctan(2y) - y + \frac{1}{2}\arctan(2y) + C \end{aligned}

그러면 v=11−xv=\frac{1}{1-x} 이고 du=(1−x)e−x dx\mathrm{d}u = (1-x)e^{-x}\,\mathrm{d}x 이다.

We've got an integrand that consists of several functions multiplied together, and no obvious substitution. So, we think about integration by parts. We know an antiderivative for 1(1−x)2\frac{1}{(1-x)^2}, because we know ddx11−x=1(1−x)2\frac{\mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{d}x}\frac{1}{1-x}=\frac{1}{(1-x)^2}. So let's try dv=dx(1−x)2\mathrm{d}v = \frac{\mathrm{d}x}{(1-x)^2} and u=xe−xu=xe^{-x}. Then v=11−xv=\frac{1}{1-x} and du=(1−x)e−x dx\mathrm{d}u = (1-x)e^{-x}\,\mathrm{d}x. So, by integration by parts,

∫xe−x⏟udx(1−x)2⏟dv=xe−x1−x⏟uv−∫11−x⏟v(1−x)e−x dx⏟du=xe−x1−x−∫e−x dx=xe−x1−x+e−x+C=e−x1−x+C\begin{aligned} \int\underbrace{xe^{-x}}_{u}\underbrace{ \frac{\mathrm{d}x}{(1-x)^2}}_{\mathrm{d}v} &= \underbrace{\frac{xe^{-x}}{1-x}}_{uv} -\int\underbrace{\frac{1}{1-x}}_{v}\underbrace{(1-x)e^{-x}\,\mathrm{d}x}_{\mathrm{d}u} \\ &=\frac{xe^{-x}}{1-x} -\int e^{-x}\,\mathrm{d}x \\ &=\frac{xe^{-x}}{1-x} + e^{-x} + C =\frac{e^{-x}}{1-x} + C \end{aligned}

(a) The “parts" in the integrand are powers of sine. Looking at the right hand side of the reduction formula, we see that it looks a little like the derivative of sin⁡n−1x\sin^{n-1}x, although not exactly. So, let's integrate by parts with u=sin⁡n−1xu=\sin^{n-1}x and dv=sin⁡x dx\mathrm{d}v=\sin x\,\mathrm{d}x, so that du=(n−1)sin⁡n−2xcos⁡x\mathrm{d}u=(n-1)\sin^{n-2}x\cos x and v=−cos⁡xv=-\cos x.

∫sin⁡nx dx=−sin⁡n−1x cos⁡x⏟uv+(n−1)∫cos⁡2x sin⁡n−2x dx⏟−∫vduUsing the identity sin⁡2x+cos⁡2x=1,=−sin⁡n−1x cos⁡x+(n−1)∫(1−sin⁡2x)sin⁡n−2x dx=−sin⁡n−1x cos⁡x+(n−1)∫sin⁡n−2x dx−(n−1)∫sin⁡nx dx\begin{aligned} \int\sin^nx\,\mathrm{d}x &=\underbrace{-\sin^{n-1}x\ \cos x}_{uv}+\underbrace{(n-1)\int \cos^2x\ \sin^{n-2}x\ \mathrm{d}x}_{-\int v\mathrm{d}u} \\ \text{Using the identity $\sin^2 x + \cos^2 x =1 $,} \\ &=-\sin^{n-1}x\ \cos x+(n-1)\int (1-\sin^2 x)\sin^{n-2}x\ \mathrm{d}x\\ &=-\sin^{n-1}x\ \cos x+(n-1)\int\sin^{n-2}x\ \mathrm{d}x -(n-1)\int\sin^{n}x\ \mathrm{d}x \end{aligned}

Moving the last term on the right hand side to the left hand side gives

n∫sin⁡nx dx=−sin⁡n−1x cos⁡x+(n−1)∫sin⁡n−2x dx\begin{aligned} n\int\sin^nx\,\mathrm{d}x &=-\sin^{n-1}x\ \cos x+(n-1)\int\sin^{n-2}x\ \mathrm{d}x \end{aligned}

Dividing across by nn gives the desired reduction formula.

(b) By the reduction formula of part (a), if n≥2n \ge 2,

∫0π/2sin⁡n(x) dx=n−1n∫0π/2sin⁡n−2(x) dx\begin{aligned} \int_0^{\pi/2}\sin^n(x)\,\mathrm{d}x= \frac{n-1}{n}\int_0^{\pi/2}\sin^{n-2}(x)\,\mathrm{d}x \end{aligned}

since sin⁡0=cos⁡π2=0\sin 0=\cos\frac{\pi}{2}=0. Applying this reduction formula, with n=8,6,4,2n=8,6,4,2:

∫0π/2sin⁡8(x) dx=78∫0π/2sin⁡6(x) dx=78⋅56∫0π/2sin⁡4(x) dx=78⋅56⋅34∫0π/2sin⁡2(x) dx=78⋅56⋅34⋅12∫0π/2 dx=78⋅56⋅34⋅12⋅π2=35256π\begin{aligned} \int_0^{\pi/2}\sin^8(x)\,\mathrm{d}x &=\frac{7}{8}\int_0^{\pi/2}\sin^6(x)\,\mathrm{d}x =\frac{7}{8}\cdot\frac{5}{6}\int_0^{\pi/2}\sin^4(x)\,\mathrm{d}x =\frac{7}{8}\cdot\frac{5}{6}\cdot\frac{3}{4}\int_0^{\pi/2}\sin^2(x)\,\mathrm{d}x \\ &=\frac{7}{8}\cdot\frac{5}{6}\cdot\frac{3}{4}\cdot\frac{1}{2}\int_0^{\pi/2}\,\mathrm{d}x =\frac{7}{8}\cdot\frac{5}{6}\cdot\frac{3}{4}\cdot\frac{1}{2}\cdot\frac{\pi}{2} =\frac{35}{256}\pi \end{aligned}

Using a calculator, we see this is approximately 0.42950.4295.

V=∫03π[T(x)2−B(x)2] dx=π∫03(xe3x)2−(x(1+2x))2 dx=π∫03(xe6x−(x+4x2+4x3)) dx=π∫03xe6x dx−π[x22+4x33+x4]03=π∫03xe6x dx−π[322+4⋅333+34]\begin{aligned} V &= \int_0^3 \pi [T(x)^2 - B(x)^2]\,\mathrm{d}x \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 (\sqrt{x}e^{3x})^2 - (\sqrt{x}(1+2x))^2 \,\mathrm{d}x \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 \big( xe^{6x} - (x+4x^2+4x^3) \big) \,\mathrm{d}x \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 xe^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x - \pi \Big[ \frac{x^2}{2} + \frac{4x^3}{3} + x^4\Big]_{0}^3 \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 xe^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x - \pi \Big[\frac{3^2}{2} + \frac{4\cdot3^3}{3} + 3^4\Big] \end{aligned}

∫03xe6x dx=xe6x6⏟uv∣03−∫0316e6x dx⏟vdu=3e186−0−136e6x∣03=e182−(e1836−136).\begin{aligned} \int_0^3 xe^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x &=\underbrace{ \frac{xe^{6x}}{6}}_{uv}\bigg|_{0}^3 - \int_0^3 \underbrace{\frac{1}{6}e^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x }_{v\mathrm{d}u}\\ &= \frac{3e^{18}}{6} - 0 - \frac{1}{36} e^{6x} \bigg|_{0}^3 = \frac{e^{18}}{2} - \bigg( \frac{e^{18}}{36} - \frac1{36} \bigg). \end{aligned}

V=π[e182−(e1836−136)]−π[322+4⋅333+34]=π(17e18−437336).\begin{aligned} V = \pi \bigg[\frac{e^{18}}{2} - \bigg( \frac{e^{18}}{36} - \frac1{36} \bigg) \bigg] - \pi \bigg[\frac{3^2}{2} + \frac{4\cdot3^3}{3} + 3^4 \bigg] = \pi \bigg( \frac{17 e^{18}-4373}{36} \bigg). \end{aligned}

For a fixed value of xx, if we rotate about the xx-axis, we form a washer of inner radius B(x)B(x) and outer radius T(x)T(x) and hence of area π[T(x)2−B(x)2]\pi [T(x)^2 - B(x)^2]. We integrate this function from x=0x=0 to x=3x=3 to find the total volume VV:

V=∫03π[T(x)2−B(x)2] dx=π∫03(xe3x)2−(x(1+2x))2 dx=π∫03(xe6x−(x+4x2+4x3)) dx=π∫03xe6x dx−π[x22+4x33+x4]03=π∫03xe6x dx−π[322+4⋅333+34]\begin{aligned} V &= \int_0^3 \pi [T(x)^2 - B(x)^2]\,\mathrm{d}x \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 (\sqrt{x}e^{3x})^2 - (\sqrt{x}(1+2x))^2 \,\mathrm{d}x \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 \big( xe^{6x} - (x+4x^2+4x^3) \big) \,\mathrm{d}x \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 xe^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x - \pi \Big[ \frac{x^2}{2} + \frac{4x^3}{3} + x^4\Big]_{0}^3 \\ &= \pi \int_0^3 xe^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x - \pi \Big[\frac{3^2}{2} + \frac{4\cdot3^3}{3} + 3^4\Big] \end{aligned}

For the first integral, we use integration by parts with u(x)=xu(x) = x, dv=e6xdx\mathrm{d}v = e^{6x}\mathrm{d}x, so that du=dx\mathrm{d}u=\mathrm{d}x and v(x)=16e6xv(x)=\frac16e^{6x}:

∫03xe6x dx=xe6x6⏟uv∣03−∫0316e6x dx⏟vdu=3e186−0−136e6x∣03=e182−(e1836−136).\begin{aligned} \int_0^3 xe^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x &=\underbrace{ \frac{xe^{6x}}{6}}_{uv}\bigg|_{0}^3 - \int_0^3 \underbrace{\frac{1}{6}e^{6x} \,\mathrm{d}x }_{v\mathrm{d}u}\\ &= \frac{3e^{18}}{6} - 0 - \frac{1}{36} e^{6x} \bigg|_{0}^3 = \frac{e^{18}}{2} - \bigg( \frac{e^{18}}{36} - \frac1{36} \bigg). \end{aligned}

Therefore, the total volume is

V=π[e182−(e1836−136)]−π[322+4⋅333+34]=π(17e18−437336).\begin{aligned} V = \pi \bigg[\frac{e^{18}}{2} - \bigg( \frac{e^{18}}{36} - \frac1{36} \bigg) \bigg] - \pi \bigg[\frac{3^2}{2} + \frac{4\cdot3^3}{3} + 3^4 \bigg] = \pi \bigg( \frac{17 e^{18}-4373}{36} \bigg). \end{aligned}

Consider the function f(x)=3x+4f(x) = 3x + 4.

(a) Compute M4M_4 for y=f(x)y=f(x) on the interval [2,5][2,5]. Be sure to clearly identify the value of Δx\Delta x, as well as the locations of x0,x1,…,x4x_0, x_1, \ldots, x_4. Include a careful sketch of the function and the corresponding rectangles being used in the sum. (b) Use a familiar geometric formula to determine the exact value of the area of the region bounded by y=f(x)y = f(x) and the xx-axis on [2,5][2,5]. (c) Explain why the values you computed in (a) and (b) turn out to be the same. Will this be true if we use a number different than n=4n = 4 and compute MnM_n? Will L4L_4 or R4R_4 have the same value as the exact area of the region found in (b)? (d) Describe the collection of functions gg for which it will always be the case that MnM_n, regardless of the value of nn, gives the exact net signed area bounded between the function gg and the xx-axis on the interval [a,b][a,b].

그러므로 M4=f(x1‾)⋅△x+f(x2‾)⋅△x+f(x3‾)⋅△x+f(x4‾)⋅△x=(f(2.375)+f(3.125)+f(3.875)+f(4.625))⋅(0.75)=(11.125+13.375+15.625+17.875)⋅(0.75)=58⋅0.75=43.5\begin{aligned}M_4 &= f(\overline{x_1}) \cdot \triangle x + f(\overline{x_2}) \cdot \triangle x + f(\overline{x_3}) \cdot \triangle x + f(\overline{x_4}) \cdot \triangle x \\ &= \left(f(2.375) + f(3.125) + f(3.875) + f(4.625) \right) \cdot (0.75) \\ &= \left(11.125 + 13.375 + 15.625 + 17.875 \right) \cdot (0.75) \\ &= 58 \cdot 0.75 \\ &= 43.5\end{aligned} M4M_4 의 핵심 부분을 나타낸 전체 그림은 아래 그림과 같다.

(a) Since we are using 44 subintervals on [2,5][2,5], it follows that △x=5−24=0.75\triangle x = \frac{5-2}{4} = 0.75. Thus, x0=2x_0 = 2, x1=2.75x_1 = 2.75, x2=3.5x_2 = 3.5, x3=4.25x_3 = 4.25, and x4=5x_4 = 5. The midpoints of the respective subintervals are thus x1‾=2+2.752=2.375\overline{x_1} = \frac{2+2.75}{2} = 2.375, x2‾=3.125\overline{x_2} = 3.125, x3‾=3.875\overline{x_3} = 3.875, and x4‾=4.625\overline{x_4} = 4.625. Thus, M4=f(x1‾)⋅△x+f(x2‾)⋅△x+f(x3‾)⋅△x+f(x4‾)⋅△x=(f(2.375)+f(3.125)+f(3.875)+f(4.625))⋅(0.75)=(11.125+13.375+15.625+17.875)⋅(0.75)=58⋅0.75=43.5\begin{aligned}M_4 &= f(\overline{x_1}) \cdot \triangle x + f(\overline{x_2}) \cdot \triangle x + f(\overline{x_3}) \cdot \triangle x + f(\overline{x_4}) \cdot \triangle x \\ &= \left(f(2.375) + f(3.125) + f(3.875) + f(4.625) \right) \cdot (0.75) \\ &= \left(11.125 + 13.375 + 15.625 + 17.875 \right) \cdot (0.75) \\ &= 58 \cdot 0.75 \\ &= 43.5\end{aligned} An overall sketch of the key parts of M4M_4 is seen in the figure below. ADD ALT TEXT TO THIS IMAGE (b) Observe that f(2)=10f(2) = 10 and f(5)=19f(5) = 19. The region bounded by the function, the xx-axis, and the endpoints is a trapezoid. Recalling that the area of a trapezoid is the average of the bases times the height, we see that the bounded region has area A=12(10+19)(5−2)=872 .A = \frac{1}{2}(10 + 19)(5-2) = \frac{87}{2}\,. (c) The reason that M4M_4 gives the exact area between the line and the xx-axis is the rectangles with heights that come from the midpoint have the same area as the trapezoids that are formed by the function values at the two endpoints of each subinterval. We can also see this by observing that the “extra area” bounded by the midpoint rectangle exactly matches the “missing area” that is absent from the midpoint rectangle, as seen in the following figure. Since these two quantities balance out, the areas of the midpoint rectangles give us the exact area under the curve. ADD ALT TEXT TO THIS IMAGE Indeed, the value of MnM_n will give the exact area under gg on [2,5][2,5] for any value of nn. But neither LnL_n nor RnR_n will be exact: LnL_n will underestimate the true area since every rectangle will lie completely under the function gg, whereas RnR_n will overestimate because every rectangle lies above the function. (d) For any linear function gg of the form g(x)=mx+bg(x) = mx + b such that g(x)≥0g(x) \ge 0 on the interval of interest, the midpoint rule will give the exact value of the area bounded by the function and the xx-axis. This is true because the area of the trapezoid formed by the two endpoints on a given subinterval will be the same as the area of the rectangle whose height is given by the function at the midpoint of the subinterval.

Let SS be the sum given by

S=((1.4)2+1)⋅0.4+((1.8)2+1)⋅0.4+((2.2)2+1)⋅0.4+((2.6)2+1)⋅0.4+((3.0)2+1)⋅0.4 .S = ((1.4)^2 + 1) \cdot 0.4 + ((1.8)^2 + 1) \cdot 0.4 + ((2.2)^2 + 1) \cdot 0.4 + ((2.6)^2 + 1) \cdot 0.4 +((3.0)^2 + 1) \cdot 0.4\,.

(a) Assume that SS is a right Riemann sum. For what function ff and what interval [a,b][a,b] is SS this function's Riemann sum? Why? (b) How does your answer to (a) change if SS is a left Riemann sum? a middle Riemann sum? (c) Suppose that SS really is a right Riemann sum. What is geometric quantity does SS approximate? (d) Use sigma notation to write a new sum RR that is the right Riemann sum for the same function, but that uses twice as many subintervals as SS.

R10=∑i=110((1+0.2i)2+1)⋅0.2 .R_{10} = \sum_{i=1}^{10} \left( (1+0.2i)^2 + 1 \right) \cdot 0.2\,.

(a) The function is being evaluated at x1=1.4x_1 = 1.4, x2=1.8x_2 = 1.8, x3=2.2x_3 = 2.2, x4=2.6x_4 = 2.6, and x5=3.0x_5 = 3.0. Thus, since we know this is a right Riemann sum, we are using 55 subintervals with △x=0.4\triangle x = 0.4, and x0=1.0x_0 = 1.0. From the pattern, we observe that the function must be f(x)=x2+1f(x) = x^2 + 1 on the interval [1,3][1,3]. (b) If SS is a left Riemann sum instead, then the xix_i's shift left: x0=1.4x_0 = 1.4, x1=1.8x_1 = 1.8, …\ldots, x5=3.4x_5 = 3.4. In this setting, the function is identical, but we are considering it on the interval [1.4,3.4][1.4, 3.4]. If SS is a middle Riemann sum, then (for example) 1.41.4 is the midpoint of an interval △x=0.4\triangle x = 0.4 units long, so x0=1.2x_0 = 1.2 and x1=1.6x_1 = 1.6. Continuing that trend, we'd be considering the function f(x)=x2+1f(x) = x^2 + 1 on the interval [1.2,3.2][1.2, 3.2]. (c) SS is an approximation of the area that lies under f(x)=x2+1f(x) = x^2 + 1 on [1,3][1,3]. (d) To use twice as many subintervals, we move to △x=0.2\triangle x = 0.2 and thus x1=1.2x_1 = 1.2, x2=1.4x_2 = 1.4, and so on, with the general right endpoint being given by xi=1+0.2⋅ix_i = 1 + 0.2 \cdot i. We'll also have n=10n = 10, so R10=∑i=110((1+0.2i)2+1)⋅0.2 .R_{10} = \sum_{i=1}^{10} \left( (1+0.2i)^2 + 1 \right) \cdot 0.2\,.

(a) A plot of the given data is shown in the figure below. ADD ALT TEXT TO THIS IMAGE (b) For M3M_3 with the given data, the midpoints are x1‾=0.3\overline{x_1} = 0.3, x2‾=0.9\overline{x_2} = 0.9, and x3‾=1.5\overline{x_3} = 1.5, and △t=0.6\triangle t = 0.6, so M3=f(0.3)⋅0.6+f(0.9)⋅0.6+f(1.5)⋅0.6=166⋅0.6=99.6 .M_3 = f(0.3) \cdot 0.6 + f(0.9) \cdot 0.6 + f(1.5) \cdot 0.6 = 166 \cdot 0.6 = 99.6\,. Therefore, the car travels approximately 99.699.6 feet over the 1.81.8 second interval it brakes. (c) Using the standard formulas, L6=f(0)⋅0.3+f(0.3)⋅0.3+⋯+f(1.5)⋅0.3=380⋅0.3=114L_6 = f(0) \cdot 0.3 + f(0.3) \cdot 0.3 + \cdots + f(1.5) \cdot 0.3 = 380 \cdot 0.3 = 114 and R6=f(0.3)⋅0.3+f(0.6)⋅0.3+⋯+f(1.8)⋅0.3=280⋅0.3=84 .R_6 = f(0.3) \cdot 0.3 + f(0.6) \cdot 0.3 + \cdots + f(1.8) \cdot 0.3 = 280 \cdot 0.3 = 84\,. Thus, 12(L6+R6)=114+842=99 .\frac{1}{2}(L_6 + R_6) = \frac{114+84}{2} = 99\,. Each of these three quantities is an estimate of the total distance traveled: L6L_6 is an overestimate and R6R_6 is an underestimate. (d) The maximum possible distance the car traveled before it stopped is 114114 feet. This is because LnL_n is always an overestimate when the function is decreasinging on the interval.

This problem centers on finding antiderivatives for the basic trigonometric functions other than sin⁡(x)\sin(x) and cos⁡(x)\cos(x).

(a) Consider the indefinite integral ∫tan⁡(x) dx\int \tan(x) \, dx. By rewriting the integrand as tan⁡(x)=sin⁡(x)cos⁡(x)\tan(x) = \frac{\sin(x)}{\cos(x)} and identifying an appropriate function-derivative pair, make a uu-substitution and hence evaluate ∫tan⁡(x) dx\int \tan(x) \, dx. (b) In a similar way, evaluate ∫cot⁡(x) dx\int \cot(x) \, dx. (c) Consider the indefinite integral ∫sec⁡2(x)+sec⁡(x)tan⁡(x)sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x) dx .\int \frac{\sec^2(x) + \sec(x) \tan(x)}{\sec(x) + \tan(x)} \, dx\,. Evaluate this integral using the substitution u=sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)u = \sec(x) + \tan(x). (d) Simplify the integrand in (c) by factoring the numerator. What is a far simpler way to write the integrand? (e) Combine your work in (c) and (d) to determine ∫sec⁡(x) dx\int \sec(x) \, dx. (f) Using (c)-(e) as a guide, evaluate ∫csc⁡(x) dx\int \csc(x) \, dx.

(a) We let u=cos⁡(x)u = \cos(x), so du=−sin⁡(x) dxdu = -\sin(x) \ dx. This change of variable transforms the integral into one we can integrate as follows: ∫tan⁡(x) dx=∫sin⁡(x)cos⁡(x) dx=−∫1u du=−ln⁡(∣u∣)+C=−ln⁡(∣cos⁡(x)∣+C=ln⁡(∣cos⁡(x)∣−1)+C=ln⁡(∣sec⁡(x)∣)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \tan(x) \, dx &= \int \frac{\sin(x)}{\cos(x)} \ dx \\ &= -\int \frac{1}{u} \ du \\ &= -\ln(|u|) + C \\ &= -\ln(|\cos(x)| + C \\ &= \ln\left(|\cos(x)|^{-1}\right) + C \\ &= \ln\left(|\sec(x)|\right) + C\end{aligned}\,. Note that we used the property of the logarithm that pln⁡(z)=ln⁡(zp)p \ln (z) = \ln(z^p) as well as the fact that 1cos⁡(x)=sec⁡(x)\frac{1}{\cos(x)} = \sec(x) in order to simplify the result. (b) We let u=sin⁡(x)u = \sin(x), so du=cos⁡(x) dxdu = \cos(x) \ dx. This change of variable transforms the integral into one we can integrate as follows: ∫cot⁡(x) dx=∫cos⁡(x)sin⁡(x) dx=∫1u du=ln⁡(∣u∣)+C=ln⁡(∣sin⁡(x)∣+C=−ln⁡(∣sin⁡(x)∣−1)+C=−ln⁡(∣csc⁡(x)∣)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \cot(x) \, dx &= \int \frac{\cos(x)}{\sin(x)} \ dx \\ &= \int \frac{1}{u} \ du \\ &= \ln(|u|) + C \\ &= \ln(|\sin(x)| + C \\ &= -\ln\left(|\sin(x)|^{-1}\right) + C \\ &= -\ln\left(|\csc(x)|\right) + C\end{aligned}\,. Note that here we used the fact that ln⁡(z)=(−1)(−1)ln⁡(z)=(−1)ln⁡(z−1)\ln(z) = (-1)(-1)\ln(z) = (-1) \ln(z^{-1}) in order to simplify the result. (c) We let u=sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)u = \sec(x) + \tan(x), so it follows that du=(sec⁡(x)tan⁡(x)+sec⁡2(x)) dxdu = \left(\sec(x)\tan(x)+\sec^2(x)\right) \ dx. This change of variable shows that the basic structure of the integrand is simple and can be integrated as follows: ∫sec⁡2(x)+sec⁡(x)tan⁡(x)sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x) dx=∫1u du=ln⁡(∣u∣)+C=ln⁡(∣sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)∣)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \frac{\sec^2(x) + \sec(x) \tan(x)}{\sec(x) + \tan(x)} \, dx &= \int \frac{1}{u} \ du \\ &= \ln(|u|) + C \\ &= \ln\left(|\sec(x) + \tan(x)|\right) + C\end{aligned}\,. (d) The numerator of sec⁡2(x)+sec⁡(x)tan⁡(x)sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)\frac{\sec^2(x) + \sec(x) \tan(x)}{\sec(x) + \tan(x)} can be rewritten by removing the common factor of sec⁡(x)\sec(x) to obtain sec⁡(x)(sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)) .\sec(x)\left(\sec(x) + \tan(x)\right)\,. The integrand can then be simplified to sec⁡2(x)+sec⁡(x)tan⁡(x)sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)=sec⁡(x)(sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x))sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)=sec⁡(x) .\frac{\sec^2(x) + \sec(x) \tan(x)}{\sec(x) + \tan(x)} = \frac{\sec(x)\left(\sec(x) + \tan(x)\right)}{\sec(x) + \tan(x)} = \sec(x)\,. (e) Using the results of (c) and (d), we see that ∫sec⁡(x) dx=∫sec⁡2(x)+sec⁡(x)tan⁡(x)sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x) dx=ln⁡(∣sec⁡(x)+tan⁡(x)∣)+C .\int \sec(x) \, dx = \int \frac{\sec^2(x) + \sec(x) \tan(x)}{\sec(x) + \tan(x)} \, dx = \ln\left(|\sec(x) + \tan(x)|\right) + C\,. (f) Following (c)-(e) we can evaluate intcsc⁡(x) dxint \csc(x) \, dx as follows. First, rewrite csc⁡(x)\csc(x) by multiplying by 1=csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x)csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x)1 = \frac{\csc(x) + \cot(x)}{\csc(x) + \cot(x)}, so that ∫csc⁡(x) dx=∫csc⁡(x)(csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x))csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x) dx=∫csc⁡2(x)+csc⁡(x)cot⁡(x)csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x) dx .\int \csc(x) \, dx = \int \frac{\csc(x)\left(\csc(x) + \cot(x)\right)}{\csc(x) + \cot(x)} \, dx = \int \frac{\csc^2(x) + \csc(x) \cot(x)}{\csc(x) + \cot(x)} \, dx\,. Now we evaluate the last integral in the preceding equation with the substitution u=csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x)u = \csc(x) + \cot(x). Then du=−(csc⁡(x)cot⁡(x)+csc⁡2(x)) dxdu = -\left(\csc(x)\cot(x)+\csc^2(x)\right) \ dx. This change of variable transforms the integral so that we can integrate: ∫csc⁡2(x)+csc⁡(x)cot⁡(x)csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x) dx=−∫1u dx=−ln⁡(∣u∣)+C=−ln⁡(∣csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x)∣)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \frac{\csc^2(x) + \csc(x) \cot(x)}{\csc(x) + \cot(x)} \, dx &= - \int \frac{1}{u} \ dx \\ &= -\ln(|u|) + C \\ &= -\ln\left(|\csc(x) + \cot(x)|\right) + C\end{aligned}\,. Connecting the equalities we have established in our work, we have shown that ∫csc⁡(x) dx=−ln⁡(∣csc⁡(x)+cot⁡(x)∣)+C .\int \csc(x) \, dx = -\ln\left(|\csc(x) + \cot(x)|\right) + C\,.

Consider the indefinite integral ∫xx−1 dx\int x \sqrt{x-1} \, dx.

(a) At first glance, this integrand may not seem suited to substitution due to the presence of xx in separate locations in the integrand. Nonetheless, using the composite function x−1\sqrt{x-1} as a guide, let u=x−1u = x-1. Determine expressions for both xx and dxdx in terms of uu. (b) Convert the given integral in xx to a new integral in uu. (c) Evaluate the integral in (b) by noting that u=u1/2\sqrt{u} = u^{1/2} and observing that it is now possible to rewrite the integrand in uu by expanding through multiplication. (d) Evaluate each of the integrals ∫x2x−1 dx\int x^2 \sqrt{x-1} \, dx and ∫xx2−1 dx\int x \sqrt{x^2 - 1} \, dx. Write a paragraph to discuss the similarities among the three indefinite integrals in this problem and the role of substitution and algebraic rearrangement in each.

(a) u=x−1u = x-1 로 놓으면 x=u+1x = u+1 이고 따라서 dx=dudx = du 이다. (b) (a)의 변수변환을 이용하면 ∫xx−1 dx=∫(u+1)u du .\int x \sqrt{x-1} \, dx = \int (u+1) \sqrt{u} \, du\,. ∫xx−1 dx=∫(u+1)u1/2 du=∫(u3/2+u1/2) du=25u5/2+23u3/2+C=25(x−1)5/2+23(x−1)3/2+C .\begin{aligned}\int x \sqrt{x-1} \, dx &= \int (u+1) u^{1/2} \, du \\ &= \int \left(u^{3/2} + u^{1/2} \right) \, du \\ &= \frac{2}{5} u^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} u^{3/2} + C \\ &= \frac{2}{5} (x-1)^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} (x-1)^{3/2} + C\end{aligned}\,. ∫x2x−1 dx=∫(u+1)2u1/2 du=∫(u2+2u+1)u1/2 du=∫(u5/2+2u3/2+u1/2) du=27u7/2+45u5/2+23u3/2+C=27(x−1)7/2+45(x−1)5/2+23(x−1)3/2+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^2 \sqrt{x-1} \, dx &= \int (u+1)^2 u^{1/2} \, du \\ &= \int \left(u^2 + 2u + 1 \right) u^{1/2} \, du \\ &= \int \left(u^{5/2} + 2u^{3/2} + u^{1/2} \right) \, du \\ &= \frac{2}{7} u^{7/2} + \frac{4}{5} u^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} u^{3/2} + C \\ &= \frac{2}{7} (x-1)^{7/2} + \frac{4}{5} (x-1)^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} (x-1)^{3/2} + C\end{aligned}\,. 제곱근 안에 (x−a)(x-a) 가 있고 제곱근 밖에 다항식이 있는 경우에는, 치환 u=x−au = x-a 를 이용하여 근호의 모양을 x−a\sqrt{x-a} 에서 u\sqrt{u} 로 바꿈으로써 피적분함수를 적분할 수 있는 식으로 바꿀 수 있다.

(a) Letting u=x−1u = x-1, we find that x=u+1x = u+1 and thus dx=dudx = du. (b) Using the change of variables in (a), ∫xx−1 dx=∫(u+1)u du .\int x \sqrt{x-1} \, dx = \int (u+1) \sqrt{u} \, du\,. (c) Using the fact that u=u1/2\sqrt{u} = u^{1/2} and distributing, we can evaluate the integral as follows: ∫xx−1 dx=∫(u+1)u1/2 du=∫(u3/2+u1/2) du=25u5/2+23u3/2+C=25(x−1)5/2+23(x−1)3/2+C .\begin{aligned}\int x \sqrt{x-1} \, dx &= \int (u+1) u^{1/2} \, du \\ &= \int \left(u^{3/2} + u^{1/2} \right) \, du \\ &= \frac{2}{5} u^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} u^{3/2} + C \\ &= \frac{2}{5} (x-1)^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} (x-1)^{3/2} + C\end{aligned}\,. (d) First, for ∫x2x−1 dx\int x^2 \sqrt{x-1} \, dx, we let u=x−1u = x-1 so that x=u+1x = u+1 and dx=dudx = du. From there, our work is very similar to what we did in (b): ∫x2x−1 dx=∫(u+1)2u1/2 du=∫(u2+2u+1)u1/2 du=∫(u5/2+2u3/2+u1/2) du=27u7/2+45u5/2+23u3/2+C=27(x−1)7/2+45(x−1)5/2+23(x−1)3/2+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^2 \sqrt{x-1} \, dx &= \int (u+1)^2 u^{1/2} \, du \\ &= \int \left(u^2 + 2u + 1 \right) u^{1/2} \, du \\ &= \int \left(u^{5/2} + 2u^{3/2} + u^{1/2} \right) \, du \\ &= \frac{2}{7} u^{7/2} + \frac{4}{5} u^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} u^{3/2} + C \\ &= \frac{2}{7} (x-1)^{7/2} + \frac{4}{5} (x-1)^{5/2} + \frac{2}{3} (x-1)^{3/2} + C\end{aligned}\,. For ∫xx2−1 dx\int x \sqrt{x^2 - 1} \, dx, despite the fact that the integral looks remarkably similar, the situation is quite different. We observe that with u=x2−1u = x^2 - 1, it follows du=2x dxdu = 2x \, dx, so we have a standard function-derivative pair. Noting that x dx=12 dux \, dx = \frac{1}{2} \, du, it follows that ∫xx2−1 dx=∫u⋅12 du=12⋅23u3/2+C=13u3/2+C=13(x2−1)3/2+C .\begin{aligned}\int x \sqrt{x^2 - 1} \, dx &= \int \sqrt{u} \cdot \frac{1}{2} \, du \\ &= \frac{1}{2} \cdot \frac{2}{3}u^{3/2} + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3} u^{3/2} + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3} (x^2-1)^{3/2} + C\end{aligned}\,. In the situation where we have (x−a)(x-a) under a square root and a polynomial outside the square root, the substitution u=x−au = x-a will allow us to convert the integrand into an expression we can integrate by changing the form of the radical from x−a\sqrt{x-a} to u\sqrt{u}. From there we are able to distribute and integrate an expression that is essentially a sum of (fractional) powers of uu. In the situation where a polynomial of degree higher than 11 (such as x2−1x^2 - 1) is under the radical, we likely have to be fortunate enough to have the derivative of said polynomial (up to a constant) outside the radical in order to be able to integrate, as we were in the last example.

Consider the indefinite integral ∫sin⁡3(x) dx\int \sin^3(x) \, dx.

(a) Explain why the substitution u=sin⁡(x)u = \sin(x) will not work to help evaluate the given integral. (b) Recall the Fundamental Trigonometric Identity, which states that sin⁡2(x)+cos⁡2(x)=1\sin^2(x) + \cos^2(x) = 1. By observing that sin⁡3(x)=sin⁡(x)⋅sin⁡2(x)\sin^3(x) = \sin(x) \cdot \sin^2(x), use the Fundamental Trigonometric Identity to rewrite the integrand as the product of sin⁡(x)\sin(x) with another function. (c) Explain why the substitution u=cos⁡(x)u = \cos(x) now provides a possible way to evaluate the integral in (b). (d) Use your work in (a)-(c) to evaluate the indefinite integral ∫sin⁡3(x) dx\int \sin^3(x) \, dx. (e) Use a similar approach to evaluate ∫cos⁡3(x) dx\int \cos^3(x) \, dx.

(a) u=sin⁡(x)u = \sin(x) 라 하면 du=cos⁡(x) dxdu = \cos(x) \, dx 이다. (b) 기본 삼각함수 항등식에서 sin⁡2(x)=1−cos⁡2(x)\sin^2(x) = 1-\cos^2(x) 이므로 sin⁡3(x)=sin⁡(x)⋅sin⁡2(x)=sin⁡(x)(1−cos⁡2(x)) .\sin^3(x) = \sin(x) \cdot \sin^2(x) = \sin(x) (1-\cos^2(x))\,. (d) 이 치환을 이용하여 얻은 적분의 값을 구하면 ∫sin⁡3(x) dx=∫sin⁡(x)(1−cos⁡2(x)) dx=∫(−1)(1−u2) du=∫(u2−1) du=13u3−u+C=13cos⁡3(x)−cos⁡(x)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \sin^3(x) \, dx &= \int \sin(x) (1-\cos^2(x)) \, dx \\ &= \int (-1)(1-u^2) \, du \\ &= \int (u^2-1) \, du \\ &= \frac{1}{3}u^3 - u + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3}\cos^3(x) - \cos(x) + C\end{aligned}\,. (e) cos⁡3(x)=cos⁡(x)⋅cos⁡2(x)=cos⁡(x)(1−sin⁡2(x))\cos^3(x) = \cos(x) \cdot \cos^2(x) = \cos(x) (1-\sin^2(x)) 이므로, u=sin⁡(x)u = \sin(x), 즉 du=cos⁡(x) dxdu = \cos(x) \, dx 로 놓으면 ∫cos⁡3(x) dx=∫cos⁡(x)(1−sin⁡2(x)) dx=∫(1−u2) du=u−13u3+C=sin⁡(x)−13sin⁡3(x)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \cos^3(x) \, dx &= \int \cos(x) (1-\sin^2(x)) \, dx \\ &= \int (1-u^2) \, du \\ &= u - \frac{1}{3}u^3 + C \\ &= \sin(x) - \frac{1}{3}\sin^3(x) + C\end{aligned}\,.

(a) If we let u=sin⁡(x)u = \sin(x), then du=cos⁡(x) dxdu = \cos(x) \, dx. Since there is no cosine function present in the integrand, we don't have the needed function-derivative pair present in order to transform the integral into one we can evaluate. (b) Using the Fundamental Trigonometric Identity, we observe that sin⁡2(x)=1−cos⁡2(x)\sin^2(x) = 1-\cos^2(x), and thus sin⁡3(x)=sin⁡(x)⋅sin⁡2(x)=sin⁡(x)(1−cos⁡2(x)) .\sin^3(x) = \sin(x) \cdot \sin^2(x) = \sin(x) (1-\cos^2(x))\,. (c) By our work in (b), we see that ∫sin⁡3(x) dx=∫sin⁡(x)(1−cos⁡2(x)) dx\int \sin^3(x) \, dx = \int \sin(x) (1-\cos^2(x)) \, dx, and in this integral we have the function-derivative pair that corresponds to u=cos⁡(x)u = \cos(x) and du=−sin⁡(x) dxdu = -\sin(x) \, dx. (d) Using this substitution and evaluating the resulting integral, ∫sin⁡3(x) dx=∫sin⁡(x)(1−cos⁡2(x)) dx=∫(−1)(1−u2) du=∫(u2−1) du=13u3−u+C=13cos⁡3(x)−cos⁡(x)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \sin^3(x) \, dx &= \int \sin(x) (1-\cos^2(x)) \, dx \\ &= \int (-1)(1-u^2) \, du \\ &= \int (u^2-1) \, du \\ &= \frac{1}{3}u^3 - u + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3}\cos^3(x) - \cos(x) + C\end{aligned}\,. (e) Here we observe that cos⁡3(x)=cos⁡(x)⋅cos⁡2(x)=cos⁡(x)(1−sin⁡2(x))\cos^3(x) = \cos(x) \cdot \cos^2(x) = \cos(x) (1-\sin^2(x)), so letting u=sin⁡(x)u = \sin(x) and thus du=cos⁡(x) dxdu = \cos(x) \, dx, we have ∫cos⁡3(x) dx=∫cos⁡(x)(1−sin⁡2(x)) dx=∫(1−u2) du=u−13u3+C=sin⁡(x)−13sin⁡3(x)+C .\begin{aligned}\int \cos^3(x) \, dx &= \int \cos(x) (1-\sin^2(x)) \, dx \\ &= \int (1-u^2) \, du \\ &= u - \frac{1}{3}u^3 + C \\ &= \sin(x) - \frac{1}{3}\sin^3(x) + C\end{aligned}\,.

r(t)=4+sin⁡(0.263t+4.7)+cos⁡(0.526t+9.4) .r(t) = 4 + \sin(0.263t + 4.7) + \cos(0.526t+9.4)\,.

For the town of Mathland, MI, residential power consumption has shown certain trends over recent years. Based on data reflecting average usage, engineers at the power company have modeled the town's rate of energy consumption by the function

r(t)=4+sin⁡(0.263t+4.7)+cos⁡(0.526t+9.4) .r(t) = 4 + \sin(0.263t + 4.7) + \cos(0.526t+9.4)\,.

Here, tt measures time in hours after midnight on a typical weekday, and rr is the rate of consumption in megawatts at time tt. Units are critical throughout this problem; note that the unit megawatt is itself a rate, which measures energy consumption per unit time. A megawatt-hour is the total amount of energy that is equivalent to a constant stream of 1 megawatt of power being sustained for 1 hour.

(a) Sketch a carefully labeled graph of r(t)r(t) on the interval [0,24] and explain its meaning. Why is this a reasonable model of power consumption? (b) Without calculating its value, explain the meaning of ∫024r(t) dt\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt. Include appropriate units on your answer. (c) Determine the exact amount of energy Mathland consumes in a typical day. (d) What is Mathland's average rate of power consumption in a given 24-hour period? What are the units on this quantity?

구간 -2 < t < 26 에서 r(t) = 4 + sin(0.263t + 4.7) + cos(0.526t+9.4) 의 그래프이다. ∫024r(t) dt=∫024[4+sin⁡(0.263t+4.7)+cos⁡(0.526t+9.4)] dt .\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt = \int_0^{24} \left[ 4 + \sin(0.263t + 4.7) + \cos(0.526t+9.4) \right] \, dt\,. ∫sin⁡(0.263t+4.7) dt=10.263∫sin⁡(u) du=−10.263cos⁡(u)=−10.263cos⁡(0.263t+4.7)\int \sin(0.263t + 4.7) \, dt = \frac{1}{0.263} \int \sin(u) \, du = -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(u) = -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(0.263t + 4.7) 그리고 ∫cos⁡(0.526t+9.4) dt=10.526∫cos⁡(w) dw=10.526sin⁡(w)=10.526sin⁡(0.526t+9.4) .\int \cos(0.526t + 9.4) \, dt = \frac{1}{0.526} \int \cos(w) \, dw = \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(w) = \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(0.526t + 9.4)\,. ∫024r(t) dt=4t−10.263cos⁡(0.263t+4.7)+10.526sin⁡(0.526t+9.4)∣024=[4⋅24−10.263cos⁡(0.263⋅24+4.7)+10.526sin⁡(0.526⋅24+9.4)]−[−10.263cos⁡(4.7)+10.526sin⁡(9.4)]≈95.7809\begin{aligned}\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt &= \left. 4t -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(0.263t + 4.7) + \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(0.526t + 9.4) \right|_0^{24} \\ &= \left[ 4 \cdot 24 -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(0.263 \cdot 24 + 4.7) + \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(0.526 \cdot 24 + 9.4) \right] - \left[ -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(4.7) + \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(9.4) \right] \\ &\approx 95.7809\end{aligned} 메가와트시의 전력이 2424시간 동안 사용된다.

(a) In the following plot, we see that the model is reasonable because it appears to be periodic and repeats every 2424 hours, as well as that the rate of consumption seems to peak at the times of day where people are most active in their homes: around 77 a.m. and around 55 p.m. A plot of r(t) = 4 + sin(0.263t + 4.7) + cos(0.526t+9.4) on the interval -2 lt t lt 26. The function has equal global minimums at t = 0 and t = 24, equal global maxnimums at t approx 7 and t approx 17 (b) The meaning of ∫024r(t) dt\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt is the total power consumed in 2424 hours, measured in megawatt-hours. This is because r(t)r(t) is measured in megawatts and △t\triangle t in hours, and thus in the Riemann sum that corresponds to the definite integral, the terms in the sum of the form r(t)⋅△tr(t) \cdot \triangle t have units “megawatt-hours”. Moreover, by integrating the rate of power consumption we get the total change in power consumed. (c) In a typical day, we know that Mathland consumes ∫024r(t) dt\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt megawatt-hours of power, and thus we seek to evaluate the integral ∫024r(t) dt=∫024[4+sin⁡(0.263t+4.7)+cos⁡(0.526t+9.4)] dt .\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt = \int_0^{24} \left[ 4 + \sin(0.263t + 4.7) + \cos(0.526t+9.4) \right] \, dt\,. To do so, we use the subtitutions u=0.263t+4.7u = 0.263t + 4.7 (so du=0.263 dtdu = 0.263 \, dt) and w=0.526t+9.4w = 0.526t + 9.4 (so dw=0.526 dtdw = 0.526 \, dt) to help us antidifferentiate the two trigonometric expressions, and thus we find that ∫sin⁡(0.263t+4.7) dt=10.263∫sin⁡(u) du=−10.263cos⁡(u)=−10.263cos⁡(0.263t+4.7)\int \sin(0.263t + 4.7) \, dt = \frac{1}{0.263} \int \sin(u) \, du = -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(u) = -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(0.263t + 4.7) and ∫cos⁡(0.526t+9.4) dt=10.526∫cos⁡(w) dw=10.526sin⁡(w)=10.526sin⁡(0.526t+9.4) .\int \cos(0.526t + 9.4) \, dt = \frac{1}{0.526} \int \cos(w) \, dw = \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(w) = \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(0.526t + 9.4)\,. Putting this all together and using the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, we have ∫024r(t) dt=4t−10.263cos⁡(0.263t+4.7)+10.526sin⁡(0.526t+9.4)∣024=[4⋅24−10.263cos⁡(0.263⋅24+4.7)+10.526sin⁡(0.526⋅24+9.4)]−[−10.263cos⁡(4.7)+10.526sin⁡(9.4)]≈95.7809\begin{aligned}\int_0^{24} r(t) \, dt &= \left. 4t -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(0.263t + 4.7) + \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(0.526t + 9.4) \right|_0^{24} \\ &= \left[ 4 \cdot 24 -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(0.263 \cdot 24 + 4.7) + \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(0.526 \cdot 24 + 9.4) \right] - \left[ -\frac{1}{0.263} \cos(4.7) + \frac{1}{0.526} \sin(9.4) \right] \\ &\approx 95.7809\end{aligned} megawatt-hours of power used in 2424 hours. (d) We know that the average value of the rate function rr on [0,24][0,24] is rAVG⁡[0,24]=124−0∫024r(t) dt .\displaystyle r_{\operatorname{AVG} [0,24]} = \frac{1}{24-0} \int_{0}^{24} r(t) \, dt\,. Thus, by our work in (c), we have that rAVG⁡[0,24]≈124⋅95.7809=3.99087\displaystyle r_{\operatorname{AVG} [0,24]} \approx \frac{1}{24} \cdot 95.7809 = 3.99087 which is measured in megawatts.

(a) Determine F′(x)F'(x). (b) Use the First FTC to find a formula for FF that does not involve an integral. (c) Is FF an increasing or decreasing function for x>0x > 0? Why?

(a) 미적분의 기본정리 제2부에 의해 F′(x)=f(x)=xe−2xF'(x) = f(x) = xe^{-2x} 이다. (b) F(x)=∫0xte−2t dtF(x) = \int_0^x te^{-2t} \, dt 의 적분을 미적분의 기본정리 제1부로 계산하기 위해 부분적분을 이용한다. u=t, du=dtdv=e−2t dt, v=−12e−2t ,\begin{aligned}u &= t, \ du = dt \\ dv &= e^{-2t} \, dt, \ v = -\frac{1}{2}e^{-2t}\end{aligned}\,, 로 놓으면 ∫te−2t dt=−12te−2t−∫(−12e−2t) dt=−12te−2t−14e−2t \int te^{-2t} \, dt = -\frac{1}{2}te^{-2t} - \int \left( -\frac{1}{2}e^{-2t} \right) \, dt = -\frac{1}{2}te^{-2t} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2t}\, 이다. 따라서 F(x)=∫0xte−2t dt=−12te−2t−14e−2t∣0x=−12xe−2x−14e−2x−(0−14e0)=−12xe−2x−14e−2x+14\begin{aligned}F(x) &= \int_0^x te^{-2t} \, dt \\ &= \left. -\frac{1}{2}te^{-2t} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2t} \right|_{0}^{x} \\ &= -\frac{1}{2}xe^{-2x} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2x} - \left( 0 - \frac{1}{4}e^{0} \right) \\ &= -\frac{1}{2}xe^{-2x} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2x} + \frac{1}{4}\end{aligned} (c) x>0x > 0 일 때, ee 의 거듭제곱은 항상 양수이므로 F′(x)=f(x)=xe−2x>0F'(x) = f(x) = xe^{-2x} > 0 임을 알 수 있다.

(a) By the Second Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, F′(x)=f(x)=xe−2xF'(x) = f(x) = xe^{-2x}. (b) To use the First Fundamental Theorem of Calculus to evaluate the integral in F(x)=∫0xte−2t dtF(x) = \int_0^x te^{-2t} \, dt, we use integration by parts. Letting u=t, du=dtdv=e−2t dt, v=−12e−2t ,\begin{aligned}u &= t, \ du = dt \\ dv &= e^{-2t} \, dt, \ v = -\frac{1}{2}e^{-2t}\end{aligned}\,, it follows that ∫te−2t dt=−12te−2t−∫(−12e−2t) dt=−12te−2t−14e−2t .\int te^{-2t} \, dt = -\frac{1}{2}te^{-2t} - \int \left( -\frac{1}{2}e^{-2t} \right) \, dt = -\frac{1}{2}te^{-2t} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2t}\,. Thus, F(x)=∫0xte−2t dt=−12te−2t−14e−2t∣0x=−12xe−2x−14e−2x−(0−14e0)=−12xe−2x−14e−2x+14\begin{aligned}F(x) &= \int_0^x te^{-2t} \, dt \\ &= \left. -\frac{1}{2}te^{-2t} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2t} \right|_{0}^{x} \\ &= -\frac{1}{2}xe^{-2x} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2x} - \left( 0 - \frac{1}{4}e^{0} \right) \\ &= -\frac{1}{2}xe^{-2x} - \frac{1}{4}e^{-2x} + \frac{1}{4}\end{aligned} (c) For x>0x > 0, we observe that F′(x)=f(x)=xe−2x>0F'(x) = f(x) = xe^{-2x} > 0 since ee to any power is positive. Thus, because F′(x)>0F'(x) > 0, it follows that FF is increasing for all x>0x > 0.

∫e2xcos⁡(ex) dx=∫ex⋅excos⁡(ex) dx .\int e^{2x} \cos(e^x) \, dx = \int e^x \cdot e^x \cos(e^x) \, dx\,. z=exz = e^x 으로 놓으면 dz=ex dxdz = e^x \, dx 이므로 ∫e2xcos⁡(ex) dx=∫zcos⁡(z) dz .\int e^{2x} \cos(e^x) \, dx = \int z \cos(z) \, dz\,. 이렇게 하면 ∫zcos⁡(z) dz=zsin⁡(z)−∫sin⁡(z) dz=zsin⁡(z)+cos⁡(z)+C .\int z \cos(z) \, dz = z \sin(z) - \int \sin(z) \, dz = z \sin(z) + \cos(z) + C\,. ∫e2xcos⁡(ex) dx=exsin⁡(ex)+cos⁡(ex)+C .\int e^{2x} \cos(e^x) \, dx = e^x \sin(e^x) + \cos(e^x) + C\,. 즉, ∫e2xcos⁡(e2x) dx=∫cos⁡(u)⋅12 du=12sin⁡(u)+C=12sin⁡(e2x)+C\begin{aligned}\int e^{2x} \cos(e^{2x}) \, dx &= \int \cos(u) \cdot \frac{1}{2} \, du \\ &= \frac{1}{2} \sin(u) + C \\ &= \frac{1}{2} \sin(e^{2x}) + C\end{aligned} (d) - 첫 번째 적분 ∫e2xsin⁡(ex) dx\int e^{2x} \sin(e^x) \, dx 에서는 exe^x 이 합성함수의 안쪽 함수이므로 z=exz = e^x 으로 놓는다. 그러면 dz=ex dxdz = e^x \, dx 이고, e2x=ex⋅exe^{2x} = e^x \cdot e^x 으로 쓴다. 따라서 ∫e2xsin⁡(ex) dx=∫ex⋅exsin⁡(ex) dx=∫zsin⁡(z) dz .\int e^{2x} \sin(e^x) \, dx = \int e^x \cdot e^x \sin(e^x) \, dx = \int z \sin(z) \, dz\,. u=zu = z, dv=sin⁡(z) dzdv = \sin(z) \, dz 로 놓고 일반적인 방법으로 부분적분하면 ∫zsin⁡(z) dz=sin⁡(z)−zcos⁡(z)+C\int z \sin(z) \, dz = \sin(z) - z\cos(z) + C 를 얻는다. zz 를 다시 xx 로 되돌리면 다음을 얻는다. ∫e2xsin⁡(ex) dx=sin⁡(ex)−zcos⁡(ex)+C .\int e^{2x} \sin(e^x) \, dx = \sin(e^x) - z\cos(e^x) + C\,.

(a) We first write ∫e2xcos⁡(ex) dx=∫ex⋅excos⁡(ex) dx .\int e^{2x} \cos(e^x) \, dx = \int e^x \cdot e^x \cos(e^x) \, dx\,. Letting z=exz = e^x, we have dz=ex dxdz = e^x \, dx, and thus ∫e2xcos⁡(ex) dx=∫zcos⁡(z) dz .\int e^{2x} \cos(e^x) \, dx = \int z \cos(z) \, dz\,. (b) We can evaluate the integral ∫zcos⁡(z) dz\int z \cos(z) \, dz using integration by parts in the standard way with u=zu = z and dv=cos⁡(z) dzdv = \cos(z) \, dz. Doing so, ∫zcos⁡(z) dz=zsin⁡(z)−∫sin⁡(z) dz=zsin⁡(z)+cos⁡(z)+C .\int z \cos(z) \, dz = z \sin(z) - \int \sin(z) \, dz = z \sin(z) + \cos(z) + C\,. Returning to the original integral in xx and using the substitution we first used with zz, we have shown that ∫e2xcos⁡(ex) dx=exsin⁡(ex)+cos⁡(ex)+C .\int e^{2x} \cos(e^x) \, dx = e^x \sin(e^x) + \cos(e^x) + C\,. (c) For the integral ∫e2xcos⁡(e2x) dx\int e^{2x} \cos(e^{2x}) \, dx, we actually have a function-derivative pair (up to a constant multiple) already present: letting u=e2xu = e^{2x}, du=2e2x dxdu = 2e^{2x} \, dx, and thus we can evaluate the integral using this substitution. In particular, ∫e2xcos⁡(e2x) dx=∫cos⁡(u)⋅12 du=12sin⁡(u)+C=12sin⁡(e2x)+C\begin{aligned}\int e^{2x} \cos(e^{2x}) \, dx &= \int \cos(u) \cdot \frac{1}{2} \, du \\ &= \frac{1}{2} \sin(u) + C \\ &= \frac{1}{2} \sin(e^{2x}) + C\end{aligned} (d) - For the first integral, ∫e2xsin⁡(ex) dx\int e^{2x} \sin(e^x) \, dx, since exe^x is the inside function in the composition, we let z=exz = e^x, so dz=ex dxdz = e^x \, dx, and write e2x=ex⋅exe^{2x} = e^x \cdot e^x. Hence, ∫e2xsin⁡(ex) dx=∫ex⋅exsin⁡(ex) dx=∫zsin⁡(z) dz .\int e^{2x} \sin(e^x) \, dx = \int e^x \cdot e^x \sin(e^x) \, dx = \int z \sin(z) \, dz\,. Using the standard integration by parts with u=zu = z and dv=sin⁡(z) dzdv = \sin(z) \, dz, we find ∫zsin⁡(z) dz=sin⁡(z)−zcos⁡(z)+C .\int z \sin(z) \, dz = \sin(z) - z\cos(z) + C\,. Re-substituting from zz back to xx, we've found that ∫e2xsin⁡(ex) dx=sin⁡(ex)−zcos⁡(ex)+C .\int e^{2x} \sin(e^x) \, dx = \sin(e^x) - z\cos(e^x) + C\,.

  • The integral ∫e3xsin⁡(e3x) dx\int e^{3x} \sin(e^{3x}) \, dx can be evaluated using a uu-substitution since u=e3xu = e^{3x} is present to form a function-derivative pair with du=3e3xdu = 3e^{3x}. It follows that ∫e3xsin⁡(e3x) dx=∫sin⁡(u)⋅13 du=−13cos⁡(u)+C=−13cos⁡(e3x)+C .\int e^{3x} \sin(e^{3x}) \, dx = \int \sin(u) \cdot \frac{1}{3} \, du = -\frac{1}{3} \cos(u) + C = -\frac{1}{3} \cos(e^{3x}) + C\,.
  • For the final integral, ∫xex2cos⁡(ex2)sin⁡(ex2) dx\int xe^{x^2} \cos(e^{x^2}) \sin(e^{x^2}) \, dx, we first observe by the chain rule that ddx[ex2]=2xex2\frac{d}{dx}\left[e^{x^2}\right] = 2xe^{x^2}, which shows that we have a function-derivative pair present. Using the substitution z=ex2z = e^{x^2}, it follows dz=2xex2 dxdz = 2xe^{x^2} \, dx, and therefore ∫xex2cos⁡(ex2)sin⁡(ex2) dx=∫cos⁡(z)sin⁡(z)⋅12 dz .\int xe^{x^2} \cos(e^{x^2}) \sin(e^{x^2}) \, dx = \int \cos(z) \sin(z) \cdot \frac{1}{2} \, dz\,. The new integral in zz can be evaluated using several different approaches, including uu-substitution with u=sin⁡(z)u = \sin(z), du=cos⁡(z) dzdu = \cos(z) \, dz. Doing so, ∫cos⁡(z)sin⁡(z)⋅12 dz=12∫u du=12⋅12u2+C=14sin⁡2(z)+C .\int \cos(z) \sin(z) \cdot \frac{1}{2} \, dz = \frac{1}{2} \int u \, du = \frac{1}{2} \cdot \frac{1}{2} u^2 + C = \frac{1}{4} \sin^2(z) + C\,. Returning to the original integral in xx and our earlier work, substituting backward we find that ∫xex2cos⁡(ex2)sin⁡(ex2) dx=14sin⁡2(ex2)+C .\int xe^{x^2} \cos(e^{x^2}) \sin(e^{x^2}) \, dx = \frac{1}{4} \sin^2(e^{x^2}) + C\,.

For each of the following indefinite integrals, determine whether you would use uu-substitution, integration by parts, neither*, or both to evaluate the integral. In each case, write one sentence to explain your reasoning, and include a statement of any substitutions used. (That is, if you decide in a problem to let u=e3xu = e^{3x}, you should state that, as well as that du=3e3x dxdu = 3e^{3x} \, dx.) Finally, use your chosen approach to evaluate each integral. (* one of the following problems does not have an elementary antiderivative and you are not expected to actually evaluate this integral; this will correspond with a choice of “neither” among those given.)

∫x2cos⁡(x3) dx=13∫cos⁡(u) du=13sin⁡(u)+C=13sin⁡(x3)+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^2 \cos(x^3) \ dx &= \frac{1}{3} \int \cos(u) \ du \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \sin(u) + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \sin(x^3) + C\end{aligned}\,. 그러면 ∫x5cos⁡(x3) dx=13∫zcos⁡(z) dz .\int x^5 \cos(x^3) \ dx = \frac{1}{3} \int z \cos(z) \ dz\,. 이 마지막 적분에 다음과 같이 놓고 부분적분을 시도해 볼 수 있다. u=z, du=dzdv=cos⁡(z) dz, v=sin⁡(z)\begin{aligned}u &= z, \ du = dz \\ dv & = \cos(z) \, dz, \ v = \sin(z)\end{aligned} 그러면 ∫x5cos⁡(x3) dx=13∫zcos⁡(z) dz=13(zsin⁡(z)−∫sin⁡(z) dz)=13(zsin⁡(z)+cos⁡(z))+C=13(x3sin⁡(x3)+cos⁡(x3))+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^5 \cos(x^3) \ dx &= \frac{1}{3} \int z \cos(z) \ dz \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \left(z\sin(z) - \int \sin(z) \ dz \right) \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \left(z\sin(z) + \cos(z) \right) + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \left(x^3\sin(x^3) + \cos(x^3) \right) + C\end{aligned}\,. 그래서 다음과 같이 놓는다. u=ln⁡(x2), du=2x dxdv=x dx, v=x22\begin{aligned}u &= \ln(x^2), \ du = \frac{2}{x} \ dx \\ dv & = x \ dx , \ v = \frac{x^2}{2}\end{aligned} 그러면 부분적분에 의해 ∫xln(x2) dx=x22ln⁡(x2)−∫(2x)(x22) dx=x22ln⁡(x2)−∫x dx=x22ln⁡(x2)−x22+C .\begin{aligned}\int x ln(x^2) \ dx &= \frac{x^2}{2} \ln(x^2) - \int \left(\frac{2}{x}\right) \left(\frac{x^2}{2}\right) \ dx \\ &= \frac{x^2}{2} \ln(x^2) - \int x \ dx \\ &= \frac{x^2}{2} \ln(x^2) - \frac{x^2}{2} + C\end{aligned}\,.

(a) We will use a uu-substitution with u=x3u = x^3 because the integrand involves a composite function with x3x^3 as the innermost function and because du=3x2 dxdu = 3x^2 \, dx involves the factor x2x^2 which is also present in the integrand. When we make this substitution we will have x2 dx=13 dux^2 \ dx = \frac{1}{3} \ du and the integral can be evaluated as follows: ∫x2cos⁡(x3) dx=13∫cos⁡(u) du=13sin⁡(u)+C=13sin⁡(x3)+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^2 \cos(x^3) \ dx &= \frac{1}{3} \int \cos(u) \ du \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \sin(u) + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \sin(x^3) + C\end{aligned}\,. (b) We might try substituting z=x3/z = x^3/, since there is a composite function in the integrand. In this case we have dz=3x2 dxdz = 3x^2 \, dx. To make this substitution we need to rewrite the integrand as x5cos⁡(x3)=x3[x2cos⁡(x3)]x^5 \cos(x^3) = x^3 \left[x^2 \cos(x^3) \right] and notice that x3=zx^3 = z. Then ∫x5cos⁡(x3) dx=13∫zcos⁡(z) dz .\int x^5 \cos(x^3) \ dx = \frac{1}{3} \int z \cos(z) \ dz\,. We can then try integration by parts on this last integral with u=z, du=dzdv=cos⁡(z) dz, v=sin⁡(z)\begin{aligned}u &= z, \ du = dz \\ dv & = \cos(z) \, dz, \ v = \sin(z)\end{aligned} We then have ∫x5cos⁡(x3) dx=13∫zcos⁡(z) dz=13(zsin⁡(z)−∫sin⁡(z) dz)=13(zsin⁡(z)+cos⁡(z))+C=13(x3sin⁡(x3)+cos⁡(x3))+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^5 \cos(x^3) \ dx &= \frac{1}{3} \int z \cos(z) \ dz \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \left(z\sin(z) - \int \sin(z) \ dz \right) \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \left(z\sin(z) + \cos(z) \right) + C \\ &= \frac{1}{3} \left(x^3\sin(x^3) + \cos(x^3) \right) + C\end{aligned}\,. (c) Since the logarithm function changes to a rational function when we differentiate it, using integration by parts with u=ln⁡(x2)=2ln⁡(x)u = \ln(x^2) = 2\ln(x) will make the resulting integral easier to evaluate. So we let u=ln⁡(x2), du=2x dxdv=x dx, v=x22\begin{aligned}u &= \ln(x^2), \ du = \frac{2}{x} \ dx \\ dv & = x \ dx , \ v = \frac{x^2}{2}\end{aligned} and then integration by parts yields ∫xln(x2) dx=x22ln⁡(x2)−∫(2x)(x22) dx=x22ln⁡(x2)−∫x dx=x22ln⁡(x2)−x22+C .\begin{aligned}\int x ln(x^2) \ dx &= \frac{x^2}{2} \ln(x^2) - \int \left(\frac{2}{x}\right) \left(\frac{x^2}{2}\right) \ dx \\ &= \frac{x^2}{2} \ln(x^2) - \int x \ dx \\ &= \frac{x^2}{2} \ln(x^2) - \frac{x^2}{2} + C\end{aligned}\,. (d) We might try a substitution with u=x4u = x^4, but then du=4x3 dxdu = 4x^3 \ dx and there is no factor of x3x^3 in the integrand to allow us to complete this substitution. If we attempt to integrate by parts, then only option is to let u=sin(x4)u = sin(x^4) which makes du=4x3cos⁡(x4)du = 4x^3 \cos(x^4) and we only make the integral more complicated. This is one integral we cannot evaluate with the tools we have. (e) We will try a uu-substitution with u=x4u = x^4, because the integrand involves a composite function with x4x^4 as the innermost function and because du=4x3 dxdu = 4x^3 \, dx involves the factor x3x^3 which is also present in the integrand. When we make this substitution we have x3 dx=14 dux^3 \ dx = \frac{1}{4} \ du and the integral can be evaluated as follows: ∫x3sin⁡(x4) dx=14∫sin⁡(u) du=−14cos⁡(u)+C=−14cos⁡(x4)+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^3 \sin(x^4) \ dx &= \frac{1}{4} \int \sin(u) \ du \\ &= -\frac{1}{4} \cos(u) + C \\ &= -\frac{1}{4} \cos(x^4) + C\end{aligned}\,. (f) We will use integration by parts. Notice that ∫x7sin⁡(x4) dx=∫x4[x3sin⁡(x4)] dx\int x^7 \sin(x^4) \ dx = \int x^4 \left[x^3 \sin(x^4)\right] \ dx and we have a factor we can differentiate (x3x^3) and one we can integrate (x3sin⁡(x4)x^3 \sin(x^4)) (as we did in part (e)). So we let u=x3, du=3x2 dxdv=x3sin⁡(x4) dx, v=−14cos⁡(x4)\begin{aligned}u &= x^3, \ du = 3x^2 \ dx \\ dv & = x^3 \sin(x^4) \ dx , \ v = -\frac{1}{4} \cos(x^4)\end{aligned} Integration by parts formula now gives ∫x7sin⁡(x4) dx=−14x4cos⁡(x4)+∫x3cos⁡(x4) dx .\int x^7 \sin(x^4) \ dx = -\frac{1}{4} x^4 \cos(x^4) + \int x^3 \cos(x^4) \ dx\,. This last integral is essentially the same as obtaining vv from dvdv, so we will make the substitution z=x4z = x^4 with dz=4x3 dxdz = 4x^3 \ dx. Changing variables in the last integral gives us ∫x7sin⁡(x4) dx=−14x4cos⁡(x4)+∫x3cos⁡(x4) dx=−14x4cos⁡(x4)+14∫cos⁡(z) dz=−14x4cos⁡(x4)+14sin⁡(z)+C=−14x4cos⁡(x4)+14sin⁡(x4)+C .\begin{aligned}\int x^7 \sin(x^4) \ dx &= -\frac{1}{4} x^4 \cos(x^4) + \int x^3 \cos(x^4) \ dx \\ &= -\frac{1}{4} x^4 \cos(x^4) + \frac{1}{4} \int \cos(z) \ dz \\ &= -\frac{1}{4} x^4 \cos(x^4) + \frac{1}{4} \sin(z) + C \\ &= -\frac{1}{4} x^4 \cos(x^4) + \frac{1}{4} \sin(x^4) + C\end{aligned}\,.

(a) The point of intersection of the graphs occurs when y(y−2)=−(y−1)(y−3)y(y - 2) = -(y - 1)(y - 3), and thus we need to find where y2−2y=−(y2−4y+3)y^2 - 2y = -(y^2 - 4y + 3) or 2y2−6y+3=02y^2 - 6y + 3 = 0. By the quadratic formula, it follows that y=6±(−6)2−(4)(2)(3)(2)(2)=6±36−244=6±124=3±32 .y = \frac{6 \pm \sqrt{(-6)^2 - (4)(2)(3)}}{(2)(2)} = \frac{6 \pm \sqrt{36 - 24}}{4} = \frac{6 \pm \sqrt{12}}{4} = \frac{3 \pm \sqrt{3}}{2}\,. Since the curve x=−(y−1)(y−3)x = -(y - 1)(y - 3) lies to the right (has a greater xx value) of x=y(y−2)x = y(y - 2) between y=3−32≈0.63y = \frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2} \approx 0.63 and y=3+32≈2.37y = \frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2} \approx 2.37 as shown in the figure below, we see that the area between the two curves is given by the integral ∫3−323+32−(y−1)(y−3)−y(y−2) dy .\int_{\frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2}}^{\frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2}} -(y - 1)(y - 3) - y(y - 2) \ dy\,. Evaluating this integral, we find that A=∫3−323+32−2y2+6y−3 dy=(−23y3+3y2−3y)∣3−323+32=[−23(3+32)3+3(3+32)2−3(3+32)]−[−23(3−32)3+3(3−32)2−3(3−32)]=−112(54+303)+112(54−303)+34(12+63)−34(12−63)−32(3+3)+32(3−3)=−53+93−33=3 .\begin{aligned}A &= \int_{\frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2}}^{\frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2}} -2y^2 + 6y - 3 \ dy \\ &= \left. \left(-\frac{2}{3}y^3 + 3y^2 - 3y \right) \right|_{\frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2}}^{\frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2}} \\ &= \left[-\frac{2}{3} \left(\frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2}\right)^3 + 3\left(\frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2}\right)^2 - 3\left(\frac{3 + \sqrt{3}}{2}\right)\right] \\ &\qquad - \left[-\frac{2}{3} \left(\frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2}\right)^3 + 3\left(\frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2}\right)^2 - 3\left(\frac{3 - \sqrt{3}}{2}\right)\right] \\ &= -\frac{1}{12}(54+30\sqrt{3}) + \frac{1}{12}(54-30\sqrt{3}) + \frac{3}{4}(12+6\sqrt{3}) \\ &\qquad - \frac{3}{4}(12-6\sqrt{3}) - \frac{3}{2}(3+\sqrt{3}) + \frac{3}{2}(3-\sqrt{3}) \\ &= -5\sqrt{3} + 9\sqrt{3} - 3\sqrt{3} \\ &= \sqrt{3}\end{aligned}\,. A plot of the curves x = y(y-2) and x=-(y-1)(y-3), which intersect at approximately left(-0.86603, 0.63397 right) and left(0.86603, 2.36603 right). The finite region bounded by the curves has x = y(y- (b) As the figure below shows, the graph of y=sin⁡(x)y = \sin(x) lies above the graph of y=cos⁡(x)y = \cos(x) on this interval. So the area between the two curves is given by A=∫π/43π/4sin⁡(x)−cos⁡(x) dx=(−cos⁡(x)−sin⁡(x))∣π/43π/4=[−cos⁡(3π4)−sin⁡(3π4)]−[−cos⁡(π4)−sin⁡(π4)]=[22−22]+[22+22]=2 .\begin{aligned}A &= \int_{\pi/4}^{3\pi/4} \sin(x) - \cos(x) \ dx \\ &= \left. \left(-\cos(x) - \sin(x) \right) \right|_{\pi/4}^{3\pi/4} \\ &= \left[-\cos\left(\frac{3\pi}{4}\right) - \sin\left(\frac{3\pi}{4}\right) \right] - \left[-\cos\left(\frac{\pi}{4}\right) - \sin\left(\frac{\pi}{4}\right) \right] \\ &= \left[ \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2} - \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2} \right] + \left[ \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2} + \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2} \right] \\ &= \sqrt{2}\end{aligned}\,. The two curves intersect when y2−y−2=y+12y^2 - y - 2 = \frac{y+1}{2}. It follows that 2y2−2y−4=y+12y^2 - 2y - 4 = y+1, so 2y2−3y−5=02y^2 - 3y - 5 = 0 and thus factoring, (2y−5)(y+1)=0(2y-5)(y+1) = 0. The figure below shows that x=y+12x = \frac{y+1}{2} lies to the right of x=y2−y−2x = y^2 - y - 2on this interval, so the area of the region between the two curves is A=∫−15/2y+12−(y2−y−2) dy=∫−15/2−y2+32y+52 dy=(−y33+34y2+52y)∣−15/2=−13[(52)3+1]+34[(52)2−1]+52[(52)+1]=−13324+6316+354=34348 .\begin{aligned}A &= \int_{-1}{5/2} \frac{y+1}{2} - (y^2-y-2) \ dy \\ &= \int_{-1}{5/2} -y^2 + \frac{3}{2}y + \frac{5}{2} \ dy \\ &= \left. \left( -\frac{y^3}{3} + \frac{3}{4}y^2 + \frac{5}{2}y \right) \right|_{-1}{5/2} \\ &= -\frac{1}{3}\left[\left(\frac{5}{2}\right)^3 + 1 \right] + \frac{3}{4}\left[\left(\frac{5}{2}\right)^2 - 1 \right] + \frac{5}{2}\left[\left(\frac{5}{2}\right) + 1 \right] \\ &= -\frac{133}{24} + \frac{63}{16} + \frac{35}{4} \\ &= \frac{343}{48}\end{aligned}\,. The finite region bounded by the curves has x = y 2-y-2 o (d) A representative picture (with m=2m = 2) is shown in the figure below. The two curves intersect when x2−1=mxx^2 - 1 = mx, or when x2−mx−1=0x^2 - mx - 1 = 0.
